=)

We are getting ready for MONDAY, and I am making a ton of soap labels and jam/jelly labels...

Then we have to make signs, and wrap & label the soap and jams & jellys!

And then we have to get all the display stuff ready... make it all pretty, pack up the car with everything I have just mentioned, plus more! (And not forget a thing!)

Happy Eliza Doolittle Day!

Remember to eat some chocolate, and maybe strawberry something, or drink some tea and talk funny! (yes wearing a hat of some kind would be appropriate)

My Eliza Doolittle Lunch~
Cold tea, hot broth, green beans & a hamburger while listening to the MFL soundtrack!
(I forgot to wear my hat....)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I could have sworn that we took photos of our Eliza Doolittle celebration, but I could not find any, so Mrs. Hunter graciously shared hers. The Hutchins girls were in attendience as well, but they did not make it into the photos.
 (Why, oh why does Google put strange spacing in my posts?!)
Let's-go-ride-a-bike!
While the crown of my head is smaller than Benjamin's, the circumference from back of the head to my nose/chin is bigger...ouch...
I just thought that it hurt to put on- taking it off was worse!
Helmet, a special jacket & cute rubber boots...
Gloves.
(My brother's bike is a Kawasaki.)
Okay, let's go. (I look like an alien or SWAT or something...)
Home again~ I think I'm good for a while!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We just went down 4208 (to Malloy Rd) and I don't think that we went much more than 5mph. This was my 2nd ride on one of these scary things- the first time was on my Uncle's girl-friend's Harley Hog, back in 1999. That was something- we went up the mountain a ways, and looked down on Carson City.....

Oatmeal cookie day...

...and listening to Johnny Cash! Laundry on the line, and the windows are open....lovely.

This is my newest apron, it is a heavy printed denim, I guess actually for upholstery.
I like to wear it tide in front. And the straps cross in the back.
~
Oatmeal Cookie Recipe
My new favorite baking fat & butter flavor.
You can get both of these items wholesale form Frontier co-op. (ask my Mom)

The coconut oil is sooo good- it is the good kind- sweet & tastes like coconut candy.
I use about 1/8 - 1/2 tea. Butter flavor per 4oz C.O.

I like to just eat this Coconut oil by the spoonful,
or a dollop in a bowl of soup, or with sauerkraut... =)

Back When We Were Grownups

Just a few ramblings I thought up while we were out today....

I like the movie Back When We Were Grownups.

I like to watch it when I am feeling like I am in a rut, or what I do makes no difference. And I am reminded that it really does matter, whether or not anyone can really SEE that it does, or are grateful or thankful for what you do. (side note: I know that I am appreciated by my family!)

So smile, and say to yourself something like this: "I am touching many lives, and I don't even know it!"

Everything I do or say (or don't do or say) makes an impact on people. (sometimes a BIG impact)

In case you had not noticed, people watch people- we seem to find it fascinating.

How do we act or re-act in a grocery store? Or a home improvement center? At the laundry mat or dry cleaners? What about the fair grounds or mall?

I think that Politicians and Christians & church-goers are possibly the most scrutinized. And I think that they should be.

What standards do people have? Do they have "Holier-than-thou"attitudes?
Do they say one thing and then do another?

And last but certainly not least:

Do they profess to be Christians, but only act like one (hypocrite) when they are actually in the church building, or when the pastor is watching?

Do they shame the name of Christ when they enter the political world? (I do not believe that a true Christian (Follower of Christ) can check religion at the door so to speak.)

(I am preaching this to myself, but if you can use it in your life then go ahead!)

The Summer Of No Pants #1

I already wear skirts & dresses about 98% of the time, but I can always use another! =)
While I have been sewing (clothes & crafts) for 16 - 20 years now, I am NOT advanced!
We just watched Julie and Julia for the second time, and I thought "I need some kind of challenge!", not that we aren't busy enough as it is, and I found & followed a link/button for SONP over at Marie-Madeline Studio!
I told my Mom that this was perfect timing for me. So my challenge is to make something interesting~ I don't know what yet....it may be just pulling apart old things, and making them new again!

The first dress that I sewed:
The "third time's the charm"! =)
...let's see...first quite a few years ago I made a dumb jumper. (I don't know why it did not turn out.) So a few years ago I turned it into a goofy house dress. And now I have turned it into a nice house/garden/maybe run-to-town-dress.

It has front and back darts, a back zipper, the skirt lands just below the knee, and we were able to fit it enough that it does not gape, and yet is not too tight! =)
(Thank you Mom, for your help!)

This is my second dress like this- the first one I made just like the pattern said. This is a fast & pretty easy dress to make. (I used Simplicity #9559 for the bodice, but for the skirt, I just copied one of my other skirts.)

(7-14-11 Well, I have gained 10# and now the dress does not fit very well at all...)

The second dress is done:

Wonderful Banana Cookies

Where have these cookies been all my life?! They are sooo good, but then I do like Banana Bread- but it can be really hard to not over cook quick breads...

These cookies are soft, chewy and tons of delicious banana flavor, and good right out of the oven, or room temperature, and frozen was even better! (they did not get too hard!)

(Note: I used good Coconut oil, instead of the shortening & butter, and added 1/2 t. of butter flavor.)
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 1/2 cup Sucanat (or brown sugar)
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup mashed bananas
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon distilled white vinegar
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts

Directions

  1. Mix together shortening, butter, white sugar, eggs, bananas, vanilla, milk and vinegar till light and creamy.
  2. In a separate bowl mix together flour, baking soda, and salt. Add to other mixture. Add nuts.
  3. Chill one hour in refrigerator.
  4. Drop by teaspoonful (I used the medium sized cooky dropper) on greased cookie sheet about two inches apart.
  5. Bake at 350 degrees F for about 10-12 minutes.

This recipe came from allrecipes.com Link

The Constant Gardener

Have you ever seen "The Constant Gardener"?
I have. I found it to be a scary film.

Scary- I guess that we all have our level and what may be scary to one person may only make the next guy laugh.

I guess the thing about this movie that I found scary is that it was so real. Almost too real. I could see it happening to us.

IMDB says: "A widower is determined to get to the bottom of a potentially explosive secret involving his wife's murder, big business, and corporate corruption."

I say: It had spy stuff. Too much love stuff for my taste. Government protecting the corporation. Was the corporation supposed to be Monsanto?

In any case, it did have a good ending. And I would like to watch it again.

(We own this film, and yes, we watched it with a filter.)

GAPS "cake" variation #3

So just as a quick note really, I wanted to tell you that when I made my "cake" this week, I did not add any water to my carrot puree. So it was a lot thicker. =)
I also used 4 whole eggs instead of the combination that I used in the past.
And I increased the Cinnamon to 1 teaspoon.
And I used about 5 & 1/2 oz of fat.

You want to know what the best part is?!? I baked it in 2 large glass loaf pans (for the same length of time), instead of a 8inch pan, so EVERY piece had a outside edge!
~And instead of just 4 corners, I now have 8!!!!~
The only draw back is that you have 2 pans to grease. Oh well, I think that it is worth it! =)
