“Trust is not a passive state of mind. It is a vigorous act of the soul by which we choose to lay hold on the promises of God and cling to them despite the adversity that at times seeks to overwhelms us.”
- - -Jerry Bridges
Know ye that the LORD he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are the sheep of HIS pasture. Psalm 100:3
"You Knit Me Together in My Mother's Womb" by: Judy Rogers:
I may not have chosen how I was made, but God knows what is best for me~ ~I guess I would not be me, if it weren't for He.
Everyone is different...
how can anyone think that they have something wrong with them (or how can people truly think you need to be someone different) ...each deep-down real person is perfect. The way that God designed. (ie our unchangeables: height, hair color, smarts, looks, strengths, gifts, personality, etc...and health to a certain extent.)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~ (I am not saying that I/we can't or don't need to get any better, because we do... we can do a lot for our selves~ but the trick is to not to beat yourself up in the process!)
We drove down on Friday, and that evening was the Founding Fathers Zombie Crawl. I wanted to wear my Colonial time period costume, but we decided that was one thing too many to deal with that day! I was going to make a sign that read "Mrs. Founding Father - behind every great man is a great woman!"...I carried this "R.I.P. Bill of Rights" Tombstone sign instead.Click here is a small report on the event from UT's Daily Texan. All day Saturday was the Students For Liberty Regional Conference....we had a CFL table too.
And all day Sunday was the Young Americans For Liberty Campaign Boot Camp.
Monday: came home! Need I say that we were (and are) really tired?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We saw old friends, and made some new friends, and learned a lot too... but I must add that all those students are very exhausting! (they have so much energy....)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I wrote this on Friday night:
I could cry...because I just looked in the hotel closet, and realized that I accidentally left my black "business" skirt that I was going to wear the the SFL Regional conference at home. And I left my khaki skirt I was going to wear to the YAL boot camp!
So, I'll have to wear my denim skirt all 4 days of this trip. =[
I know it could have been much worse...I could have left my whole suitcase, or I could have worn a dress today (that would have been bad)!
I guess what bothers me the most is that at the SFL conference last year, I did not wear the "business clothes" that were required, because I did not own any. And during the past year I made sure that I got the proper "flight attendant" clothes...sigh...oh well, there's always next time. (At the Dallas Regional- the 12th of November to be exact.click here)
....New sheets! =) ...I like the "sunshine effect" that my bed spread has...
As the weather was getting warm earlier this year, we were shopping at Goodwill for sheets and blankets to turn into a quilt for a Romanian Orphanage, and they had a BRAND NEW "Nick & Nora" (from Target) twin size flannel sheet set...just for me!
I never cared much for flannel sheets (using them at friends houses), because I wear flannel, and so that results in the Velcro effect- no fun. But I think that I'll use these in the fall and spring, when I'm not wearing heavy PJ's and don't really want a bulky blanket...I think that it will work. We'll see how that goes! =)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
And just because I am talking about sheets, how about listening to "Dream"? I just listen to this youtube, I can't watch it 'cause Roy Orbison gives me the creeps (sorry, that's just the way it is) ...but I think he sounds great!
And we watched "Little Women" (with Winona Ryder and Christian Bale). Thanks Brittany, for helping me with another batch of pears!
Thank you ladies for coming and spending time with me... I really enjoyed our getting to visit and spend some time together!
(We will have to do it again some time!)

Okay, so this is really not what I meant when I said "Thing 1 & Thing 2", but I just found this fun website: www.justmultiples.com/onsies-suess.html and just had to post about it. (I think that having multiples would be so much fun- a lot of work I know, but fun all the same!)
We really did not party, we talked, and then we watched an episode of "The Good Life"!
Goodnight Elizabeth!
This afternoon I was feeling inspired by all the blogs, so I made these party favors... ...double-walled chubby sacks, made from some scraps that I saved from the trash (thanks Elizabeth!), and a layer of felt in the middle. Folded the top to the inside, and sewed that down by hand (while watching "Skylark", with Glenn Close & Christopher Walken) Filled with 6-7 organic, fresh, home grown apples! (No, we did not grow them.)
...the kid in me always wants to know things like:
~How old are you? (are you my age, are you my Mom & Dad's age, etc...)
~Do you have siblings? (and if so, how many & how old are they?...etc...)
~Do you like to play games?
~Do we like some of the same movies?
~Where do you live?
~Where were you born? (are you a Texan?!?!)
~Do you like cats or dogs? (or pets at all)
And sometimes: ~What do you think of thrift shopping? Do you like to go? (I have the feeling that you would be a great person to go with...) ~Do you have/what is your Religious persuasion?
...we began another war in the Middle East...has it really been worth the cost?
I was thinking about what a friend told Mom & me one time. About how she and a lot of women* are husband-less, because of the Vietnam War. Kind of like widows that never were... Is it going to be that way in our generation?
I mean maybe not for Americans, but what about the young women in Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, etc...
And even though a lot of our boys are coming home, a lot of them are not well- mentally and/or physically.
Today, 18 military veterans will commit suicide. Tomorrow, another 18 will do the same. Not since the Vietnam War has the rate of militarysuicides been so high... *never married, because of the shortage of men

I think that the line in Eve of Destruction, "Hate your next-door neighbor, but don't forget to say grace..." is still true today.

The weather has been very fine this week, although on Monday it was 100 degrees-> record breaking for us, at this time of year!
Dad bought Mom one of those lovely dehydrators this summer, but we had given up the idea of drying any pears this year, ours are too small- I thought that it would be too dangerous to try it. But my Aunt announced that she had some lovely round ones that we were welcome to have, if we came and picked them. So we did...but they were not much better than ours. Sigh.
But then something happy happened: our neighbor across the street brought over a big fat grocery sack of pears, that were even bigger and better than my Aunt's! =) Happy day! I (with Mom's help), got them into the dehydrator that night, they came out only filling one quart jar, but we were told that we could come back for more! =)
It is really nice having nice neighbors. (Sometimes I think that they are too nice for us!)
Would you like some more happy news?!? At the beginning of summer, I bought 3 little yellow squash plants, that never did well, and one by one, they have died. Well, I should say all but one! Dad dug it up and added stuff to the soil, and the plant did better, but it remained pathetic looking, and never produced. But today I looked at it and there are 2 very little squashes on it!!!
I wish that I had the camera with me this evening- I picked pretty little yellow squash and pretty hot red peppers, and carried them in in the skirt of my retro blue with white daisy's apron. (reproduction flour sack fabric)
Last night, M, D and I went to the movies for the opening night of 'Courageous' (click here), from the makers of 'Facing the Giants' and 'Fireproof'. It was a packed house (almost full), and we were on the 2nd row. It was really good movie- I alternately howled with laughter & slapping my legs...and crying & holding my parents hands. You should go see it if you get the chance. FYI: I found it to be a little stressful.
One last thing- I can't hardly wrap my mind around this: I have 2 Aunts getting married in less than 12 months!! Is that normal? One just married this summer, and the other will be tying the knot on New Year's day! =) (Yes, I'm sure that I'll post about it!)
