Vintage Tea Pots

Having tea is a friendly thing to do...you can have a friend over, or many friends. You can be very plain and simple, or very fancy and formal.  You can drink it cold or hot.  I like to serve even the cold tea from a pot instead of a pitcher...it's just friendlier! =)

(Have you ever heard of a Doughnut Tea Pot?)

One of the ways I like (well, love really) to show appreciation and love for/to others is by giving gifts.   That's why I was trying out the giveaway idea.  Remember, it ends on the 9th of July!  ...read about it here!

A white pot to please anyone's taste!

Summer of No Pants??? ~2012

Sadly, Marigold over at Hideous! Dreadful! Stinky!  announced (here) that she will be unable to host The Summer of NO Pants this year....I think that that is just the saddest news!
(One of last year's post: here)

But then I thought: Why don't I just go ahead and pretend to do it?  I mean, just go ahead and do it all by myself, doing the best I can?!

Monday:
Before

With that (and a friend's wedding on Saturday) on my mind I took all day (off & on really) to cut out and sew a really cute skirt! I decided to try it on before I put the zipper in, and I'm glad that I did....because I squeezed this skirt out of an old house dress*, the right side is cut on THE PERFECT bias and the left is a really nice strait grain.

Help! What am I going to do with that?!?!?  So I feel like I could cry...it is nice fabric, and it could be really cute! =l

Wednesday:

Pride Goeth Before a Fall

I approached the skirt with a consciously calm attitude, sewed the first half of the bias waist in, and with many prayers applied the zipper (I had carefully ripped it out of the dress, and shortened it for the skirt). It went in very well- nearly perfect! I even took some pictures:

Basted closed and the zipper is glued in, ready to sew...

 Seam ripping the basting....

I zigzag my raw edges to the zipper....

I'm not aware of gloating, but I know (looking back) that I did not give praise to HIM who helped me.  Then it happened...I fell. I'm not sure how many feet, but I forgot to stitch the zipper stop, before I went any further, and as I was closing the zipper to fold & pin the bias tape down...the zipper head flew off into my hand. (I simultaneously yelled NOOOOO!!!!!!)

I thought about crying, but I knew it was my fault, and that it would not really help any...so I got a drink of water, and asked forgiveness as I started seam-ripping.  Thankfully we had a new zipper. And my new skirt was all done before 11:30 p.m.! (Thank you, Lord!)

(I must say~ it was rather odd to remove the zipper from the dress, sew it into the skirt and then remove it again... I then fixed the zipper, and put it in my stash to use on some other project down the road!)

After

I like how you can see just a peep of the blue bias tape...

To counter the difference of the Left side V. Right side, I made a bit of a sash...

Praise ye the LORD. Praise the LORD, O my soul.
While I live will I praise the LORD:
I will sing praises unto my God while I have any being.
Psalm 146:1-2

Praise ye the LORD: for it is good to sing praises unto our God;
for it is pleasant; and praise is comely.
Psalm 147:1

*nothing was really wrong with this dress, just a little faded, my clothes last FOREVER...so I was tired of it. I think that I made this dress when I was 18ish...it's really good fabric that I got on a really good sale at Jo-Ann Fabrics.

The Puppy Pile....shortly after we arrived (at lunch time), J & E were calling me "Molly", but by the end of the afternoon, I was "Mom". =)

~300~

Wow, Y'all!  My 300th post is here at last. I am having a hard time believing that I have made that many posts... I started blogging way back in 2006- when blogging was THE way to stay connected.

My very first post was, believe it or not- the 20th of May. Yes, it was for Eliza Doolittle Day!  (Hmmm...I guess that I have been crazy longer than I care to admit!)
Just for grins, my first 2 posts: here & here. (be nice now- you have to remember that I was working with DIAL-UP....and anything to do with the blog, esp. pictures took an insane length of time and it took the computer's WHOLE brain. Mom did not like it.)

I think that 300 posts sounds like a reason to celebrate~ and what better way to celebrate than with presents?!  To say thank you to all my readers, I am planning 5 Giveaways spread out over the summer!  =)

(you can click on the "Giveaway" link on the right side of the page to better keep up with what's new)

What do I have here?!  Your very own packet of Stash Tea* (5 kinds)!
*Sorry, cup & saucer not included

One reason I like Stash Tea is that each tea bag actually makes 2-4 cups (a small pot) of tea!

Funny Brownies

~Funny Brownies~
...for "Gatherer" of the GenoType Diet world...

a little less than 2/3 C. Xylotal
1/8 t. stevia, too-
1/2 C. Barley Flour
1/2 C. (first time I used Spelt Flour, and this time I used Oat Flour)
1/2 t. Salt
1/3 C. (plus a bit) Cocoa Powder (for me, it has to be organic)
4 eggs
1/2 C. Olive or Rice Bran Oil
1/2 t. Vanilla

Pre-heat your oven to 350 and spray/grease an 8x8 inch pan.

Combine and beat all the ingredients 'till smooth and yummy looking- (beating the eggs properly is what makes these brownies nice)

Bake for 20 minutes or so...test with a toothpick.
(the first time I did 25, and they were very over done....)

~Happy Eating!
Adrienne

P.S.  I prefer to eat these Brownies frozen...very nice indeed....sort of like a Cocoa Pebbles chocolate bar!

(these aren't my brownies (and I've never tried this recipe), but they look kind of like them..I got the pic. HERE.)

Vera Lynn

I wonder what Vera Lynn would think/say about the fact that "the lights all over the World" have never truly come on....

Vera Welch was born March 20th, 1917.  Like most performers, Vera changed her last name. She chose Lynn (at least it was her Grandmother's maiden name!).

In 2009 she became the oldest living artist to make it to No. 1 on the British album chart, at the age of 92.   (Just looking at her, she makes me think of Mrs. Lauer)

Her autobiography Some Sunny Day was published in August 2009, when Lynn was 92. She had written two previous memoirs: Vocal Refrain (1975) and We'll Meet Again (1989).
 ~*~
She is one of the last surviving major entertainers of the war years.

You can read a bit more about her here.

What I prefer to clean with:

1) LifeTree Home Soap~ That stuff is the greatest!! The only smell is the ingredients, so it's practically unscented and it is concentrated, so you need only use a drop or two per toilet, or sink. And it is the best stuff for stains....esp blood. We buy it wholesale from Frontier Natural Products co-op, but you can buy it at most health food stores.

2) Bon ami~ how can anyone live without that? It's cheep, does NOT scratch, and you buy it at the Grocery Store. great for bathrooms, stove tops, scouring sinks, Formica counter tops, tea or coffee stained dishes....the list goes on...

3) GSE~ 10 to 20 drops in a spray bottle of water, will take care of all your disinfecting needs, and for cleaning the cabinet fronts, etc....and if you don't feel so well, add about 15 drops to a little glass of orange juice, stir it up and drink it down! We also gave our little dog 15 drops (or 1 tablet) every day, and he never had worms! The ducks get a really big, long squeeze in their water from time to time....We buy ours from Vitamin Shop.

4) Bleach~ I don't actually use that much bleach, but I like to have it around. I like to add a little to a spray-bottle of water, for nastier cleaning jobs.
Also when I wash something light colored and it comes out of the wash looking pinkish or blueish...or just not right...don't put it in the dryer!!! if you don't have time to deal with it right then, then let it air dry til' you can treat it.
To treat it: fill a bowl with water, get garment soaking wet, lift it out, add bleach, put the garment back in the bowl, swish it around, even weight it down if you need to (with a plate or something like that). Leave it a while, come back to check on it, and maybe swish it around...then you need to wash it immediately by its self is good so you don't have to worry about bleaching anything else. I buy store brand at the Grocery Store.

5) Ecover Toilet Bowl cleaner (pine fresh...not very strong smelling)~ it works really well, and smells nice too! Purchased from Frontier Natural Products co-op. But we tend to buy things on sale, so the replacement bottle is a different brand...hmm...

6) Seventh Generation (free & clear) natural glass and surface cleaner~ great stuff! And yes, we also buy that from Frontier Natural Products co-op.

7) Dishwasher soap
Powder: Seventh Generation (Free&Clear) and Ecover (Free&Clear).
Gel: Earth Friendly Products, with built in Rinse Aid (Free&Clear).
(All of these are purchased from Frontier Natural Products co-op.)

Not pictured:
8) I use is rags instead of sponges. The only exception to that rule is Non-Scratch Scour Pad by ScotchBrite. And that really is not a "sponge", I use it for cleaning the glass top stove, the porcelain kitchen sink for really deep cleaning, and I have one for the shower and bathroom sink. I got mine at Target.

9) And I use Brillo Steel Wool Pads on the oven racks! (They are made in the USA!)

10) LifeTree dish soap, works better than Earth Friendly Products (but it does not smell as good!)

11) Rinse Aid: When we aren't using that Gel Auto Dish with Rinse Aid, and sometimes even if we are, we use plain old White Vinegar (undiluted!), from the Grocery Store!

12) I like to wear a cute pink retro apron when I clean.

So, now you have had a peek into my cleaning cupboard~

I forgot a birthday!

I think that I just missed Thomas Jefferson's Birthday....

...I hope that he would understand (and be pleased) that I was trying to get ready to go (as a delegate) to the Texas GOP convention.

Remember this video I made last year?  Enjoy!
