#AvonleaFW - Did Anne forget the flour...

...when she made a Chocolate Cake?   I think she did... =)

I made a pan of Almond Brownies- Mom & I thought that it seemed like a really close relative of a Flour-less Chocolate Cake.  =)

Do you ever accidentally leave ingredients out of recipes?  I never leave more than one out, and all my life, it seems to only happen to brownies.  The wheat flour brownies that I used to make, I sometimes left the sugar out, and would have to snatch the pan out of the oven, and try to stir it in...

With the Almond Meal Brownies, sometimes I leave out the butter, because remembering to get the melted butter off the stove to add to the recipe is just not "normal"!
(but, just think of Laura I. Wilder forgetting the sugar- it can be really nice eating freshly baked brownies topped with all the butter that you want!)

Mom LOVES nuts in her brownies, cookies & candy...frequent questions in our kitchen are:
"Are you going to put nuts in that?"
 "Are there nuts in that?"
"You are going to put nuts in that, aren't you?"
Today was the first time we ever added nuts to the Almond Brownie recipe (here).
They were good the first day, but the nuts went soggy overnight. =/

(did you ever try to take your picture in the reflection of a dish? That was weird!)

Will you vote for a friend of mine?

Okay, so Beth is not really a friend of mine, but I like her blog, her bravery, her refashions and her creativity....
What do you think....do you like "The Renegade Seamstress"?   (I only wish that she had more time to sew & post!)

Could I ask you a huge favor?  =)
Beth's blog has been nominated on the Craftsy site for "Best Tutorials in Sewing". It's a close race and she's up against some pretty big blogs. I was wondering if you'd take a minute and vote for her. (It's really easy!)

Here's the link:

Thanks friends!

Anniversary Dinner Party

I think that when your parents have an Anniversary, you should celebrate!
(especially if it's their 31st, and you did not do much on their 30th....)

1) Invite some friends (be told that you can't invite every couple in church)
2) Plan to be the maid/waitress
3) Find the recipes/plan the menu/shop (with help)
4) String some Party Lights inside (with help)
5) Make a fun Playlist (with help)  (play it on shuffle here!)
6) Cook  (with help)
7) I printed Drink Lists, because I did not want to have to rattle off the list to each of the 6 guests multiple times..you know how that can be?  It worked really well!  =)
8) We got to use MY dishes for the first time!

(recipe & comments are below)

I can't say that these cookies tasted like Raspberry, but they were pink, and they have a nice ingredient list, and they did taste good...I really like the Chobani Lime yogurt, too!

Green Chile Chicken Enchilada Casserole (found here)

We followed some of the tweaking that the commenters suggested:
1) Mix 1/2 tea. each: Garlic Powder, Onion Powder, Chili Powder, Cumin Powder in the S. Cream
2) Chopped the chicken (1/4 of a large bird), and mixed it into the S. Cream, too
3) Cut the tortillas in quarters after letting them dry a bit in the oven

Our comments:
~Warning: compare the ingredient list on the Green chile enchilada sauce- most have MSG~

It was a mess to make, it was ugly (looked nothing like the photo, so I did not take a picture of mine, I thought that it was good- Mom did not, used a bit more cheese- it could have used more....Will I make this recipe again? Probably not, but I'll save it for just in case! =)

Sad news...I forgot to take photos of the guests and even of my folks...sigh....

PROPOSITION 6 UNNECESSARILY EXPANDS STATE GOVERNMENT INTO INVESTMENT BANKING, REPLACING THE FREE MARKET

(Irving) – Representative David Simpson (R-Longview) expressed his opposition to Proposition 6 at a press conference today because “it would unnecessarily expand state government into investment banking, which is better performed by the private sector in a free market, allocating limited resources based on financial risk and return instead of political considerations.”

Simpson asked, “Do we want the state to fund water infrastructure like we have funded research and commercialization with CPRIT? Do we want state government handing out sweetheart loans based on political connections instead of economic realities? Government's track record on this count is poor at best, as our recent experience with CPRIT has demonstrated once again.”

“The Legislature played an elaborate shell game with the appropriation of funds for this program. The $2 billion appropriation for this program will come from the Economic Stabilization Fund (ESF), or 'Rainy Day Fund,' if this amendment is approved by the people. However, the ballot language fails to inform the voter they are moving money from the state’s ESF or that the move would exceed the spending cap if the funds were not being constitutionally dedicated,” Simpson further explained.

“The appropriate role of the state is to protect private and regional water rights.”

“Intervention in the market by the state will no doubt favor some at the expense of others, such as East Texans. Because East Texas is blessed with more water resources than other parts of the state, it is likely those resources will be sought after by others and this proposal jeopardizes the ability for East Texas to protect its resources from being taken away by force, without its consent.”

“With their consent in a free market, I believe East Texans would develop infrastructure to collect and distribute water if their rights are protected like their oil and gas resources are currently. The region’s normally abundant water supply could meet the demands for water in other places of the state.”

Representative Simpson, Republican from Longview, serves House District 7, comprised of Gregg and Upshur Counties.

S'mores Crisp Rice Treats

"In 1939, Kellogg's employee Mildred Day concocted and published a recipe for a Camp Fire Girls bake sale consisting of Rice Krispies, melted marshmallows, and margarine. It has remained a very popular snack dubbed Rice Krispies Treats"  (Source)

What do you make for a Cooky Pot Luck tonight?
(I actually made these for Dad's birthday, but just got around to posting)
What if you happen to have marshmallows & Graham crackers in the house?  =)

You make S'mores Crisp Rice Treats- Yum!

1 cup Chocolate Chips
one 10 oz. bag mini
Marshmallows (or
CUT UP large ones)
4 T. Butter
(I had a hard time getting my MM to melt, so I added another 4 T. and a splash of water...you may not have to do that!)
1 tsp. vanilla3 & 1/2 cups rice krispy cereal

2 packages of Graham Crackers, broken into small pieces- (I think it was 2)

In a large saucepan, melt butter.

Sti
r in half to 2/3 of the chocolate chips, vanilla, mini
marshmallows

Mix well until marshmallows have melted.

Fold in cereal & half the Grahams until it's all covered with marshmallow mixture.

Add in the last of th
e Graham cracker pieces and the other half of chocolate chips.

Spread into a greased 9x13 pan for thinner bars*, pat down with WET hands.

*or an 8x8 pan for thick bars

We had a visitor~

My friend E came for long visit~ so far we have watched "Sarah Plain and Tall" & "Skylark", played "Clue" & "Missionary Conquest", cut out and sewed skirts, did a little shopping at Jo-Ann, and talked! =)

E and I are working on some of her sewing projects- 2 skirts almost done so far!
They still need hemming. =)
(I must admit, I could not help thinking of Marilla sewing for Anne of GG)

I love this fabric- I think that I'll have to make a skirt out of this for me.
(I'm not sure of the fabric content, and I did not pre-wash it...I'm afraid that it will be a Hand-wash COLD & line dry /OR/ Dry Clean Only skirt....sorry, E!)
