Fall 2019 Dress 2 of 2

Just what I as going for: a cozy house dress that is kind of like a nightgown...only better fitting!
I tried something new: I used the full facing like as if I was not attaching a collar, and then slipped the collar in between...MUCH easier, and looks and fits better too!  Then I sewed the facing down all the way around, so I won't be having to iron it all the time!

~ Pattern: Vintage (late 1990's) Butterick 6760. If you sew this pattern, beware of the typo: DO NOT sew the side seams before you sew the sleeves on!!! (look over the pattern instructions- you will see what I mean.  I chose view C, with a collar. I figure I'll try it longer and I can always shorten it later!
~Sewed the size down from last time, the fit is much better.
~This time I constructed it like baby or doll clothes: attached the sleeves as called for, then sewed the skirt & bodice halves together before sewing the LONG side seams! (All the way from sleeve hem to skirt hem!)  I figured it would be easier to fit if I needed to. I don't think that I'll need too.
~Eliminated the back vent, and it is plenty full- but I doubt I can hop a fence.
~I gave the sleeves the smallest hem possible, so as to have the longest sleeves possible, they are perfect.
~The fabric is a cozy blue flowered cotton flannel, given to me by the Hutchins-- Thank you, Friends!

Fall 2019 Dress 1 of 2

The Best part about this dress, is that I was finally able to use these buttons!  Back in the old days, Greenville had 2 craft stores: "Crafts, etc" and "Old America" AND Walmart had a good fabric & craft department.  We favored "Crafts, etc", and one day Benjamin had a wad of money to blow, and he bought something very practical: a LARGE tub of buttons.
I don't know if you remember this, but in the "old days" a tub of buttons was scraped up at the factory- not like today's pretty little planned out tubs.  A lot were pretty awful, and most did not match.  After years of sewing for teddy bears, and stepping on them, and vacuuming them, I eventually inherited what was left...not many, and never used many....BUT there were 4 of these 5/8" plastic bronze colored babies.  I just used them.  =)   So, thanks Benjamin, for the buttons. And the Memories...

~Pattern: Vintage (late 1990's) Butterick 6760. It came from another friend...she bought it at Hancock's...before they closed down. If you sew this pattern, beware of the typo: DO NOT sew the side seams before you sew the sleeves on!!! (look over the pattern instructions- you will see what I mean.
~I chose view B, but panicked and lengthened it 6". I figure I'll try it longer and I can always shorten it later!
~Eliminated the back vent, and it is plenty full- I can hop a fence no problem.
~Next time, I'll sew the size down...I feel this is on the big side, lol! (I may have to add elastic to the back, or ties...we'll see...
~I gave the sleeves the smallest hem possible, so as to have the longest sleeves possible, they are perfect.
~The fabric is a soft and fine green corduroy, given to me by some friend...I knew last Fall, but I can't remember now! I'm sure it came from the Jones, or Teague/Gann.  Thank you, Friend!
~ I learned a valuable lesson one should look at free fabric so you can place the pattern pieces AROUND and not on aged/stained spots...I could have avoided the odd patch, but did not look for it, so did not see it, so now it is on the front of my new dress....that is now a house-dress, not a "cute with leggings go to town dress".  Live and learn!

Elinor said it about right

Have you seen Emma Thompson's Sense and Sensibility?
I agree with several things that Elinor Dashwood said, including the quote below.

Elinor found out some time ago that Edward (the guy she really liked) is engaged to another girl, but it just became public news-little sister Marianne is like "Why aren't you more upset???".
The answer: "...Believe me, Marianne, had I not been bound to silence I could have provided proof enough of a broken heart, even for you."

I especially understand this quote, because I somehow grew up with the idea that one does not talk about their feelings about boys, and if they do, then they talk to their folks, NOT to friends.
(I see how it is a good rule of thumb for a teenager, but now that I'm in my 30's, I find I'm tired of the silence - the alone in this world, no one has ever felt like this except me - kind of silence...but then I am not sure I have a friend I can truly trust with my feelings and also there is the fact that I didn't really have anything real to talk about anyway!)

I have friends whose husbands keep trying to get me interested in their friends...I'm just not ready for that....I'm not at that place right now, my heart is not well enough- whole enough yet...for more than one reason.   When my friends try to help their husbands set me up, I always want to say "...Believe me, _(fill in name of friend)__, had I not been bound to silence I could have provided proof enough of a broken heart, even for you."....Please lay off!

~If you don't know the story-
Edward chooses Elinor at the end of the movie,
and they all live happily ever after~

(Don't be surprised to see a few more blog posts of similar genre/nature. Trying to share some of my  feelings, while I try to move on in life.)

I'm sure that Jane Austin and Elinor would agree with the following thought:
 "part 1"
"this is part 2"
"part 3
"part 4"
