"God is my --" banner

I wrote these out on index cards, and colored the gold ones and Mom colored the white.  Then we strung them as a banner!  =)   Fun, easy project!

The Summer Of No Pants 2020 (post 3)

After some thought, I discovered that I've sewn at least 24 dresses/tops from this pattern (5 with sleeves) over the last 16 years! I'm SO thankful that Mom bought the pattern all those years ago!

~The fabric is a calico- not quite sure where I bought it. I intended to sew a long sleeve pepulim blouse, BUT when I went to make the "sloper"/"Muslen", the pattern ran small, and the blouse was too small....I gave it up, and a few years later I happily sewed a new dress instead!
~No Zipper- I never had SO much trouble- I pulled it out 2 times, before I ended up with a simple key-hole!  I felt cross-eyed!
~I used my go-to pattern, the retired Simplicity #8071  =)

*SONP not is officially happening this year, but I like to sew, and wear cute dresses & skirts anyway, so I'll just do my own thing....

RIP, Fergus Antonio "Fergie"

Sad news: My boy RIP, Fergus Antonio "Fergie" died May 4th, 2020. 😞
He was just about to turn 21, this summer...I was thinking of giving him a Birthday Party...now it would be a wake.  I had to "Man Up" - the hardest thing I've ever had to do.
I forgot to say good bye, I kept crying "my Poor Boy, my poor, poor boy".
I must say thank you God, it was not any more traumatic and I am thankful that I had him so long, and that he's not suffering.
(FYI: no, I don't want to get a new cat right away, please don't offer any.)

Dear Fergie,
Thank you for all your snuggles & fur...fur everywhere.  Thank you for getting in bed and waking me up in the morning, for catching and eating all those many, many mice, shrews, voles, rabbits, frogs & even a fish once.....

Sharing a good sermon: "Understanding Trials"

~Can we say with David "The LORD is my shepherd"?

~Can we say with Job "For I know that my redeemer liveth"?

~Can we say with Paul "..the Lord stood with me, and strengthened me"

~In trials, one should pray "LORD: give me a teachable spirit!"

The following 2 sermons are by Rev. Colin Mercer

Understanding Trials Part 1:

Understanding Trials Part 2:

~If I have Christ- that is everything- I am complete in Christ.

Job speaking of God:
"Behold, I go forward, but he is not there; and backward, but I cannot perceive him: On the left hand, where he doth work, but I cannot behold him: he hideth himself on the right hand, that I cannot see him:  But he knoweth the way that I take: when he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold." Job 23:8-10

~Trials are short, and for the saved person they DO NOT last past the length of one's life.

"... weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning." Psalm 30:5b

~In trials, we prove the everlasting mercy of God.
~Learn to bless God for the trials that come.

If you are wondering- no, I'm not very good at this yet.

Isaiah 66:5

"Hear the word of the Lord, ye that tremble at his word;
Your brethren that hated you, that cast you out for my name's sake,
said, Let the Lord be glorified:
but he shall appear to your joy, and they shall be ashamed."
Isaiah 66:5

Whatever Wednesday: Homemade Pickles

Pickles...what recipe? OH, That one- the one with the note?

Silly me!

I can't wait!

This year we used homegrown organic Munchers.
We found that wrapping them well in plastic wrap while they were still crisp from the plant before storing them in the fridge prolonged their shelf life dramatically, and so made it possible for us to save up enough to make pickles: 2 recipes, 3 times/jars.

(last year's pickle post: HERE)

Psalm 66:8-20

"O bless our God, ye people, and make the voice of his praise to be heard:

Which holdeth our soul in life, and suffereth not our feet to be moved.

For thou, O God, hast proved us: thou hast tried us, as silver is tried.

Thou broughtest us into the net; thou laidst affliction upon our loins.

Thou hast caused men to ride over our heads; we went through fire and through water:

But thou broughtest us out into a wealthy place....

....Come and hear, all ye that fear God, and I will declare what he hath done for my soul.

I cried unto him with my mouth, and he was extolled with my tongue.

If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me:

But verily God hath heard me; he hath attended to the voice of my prayer.

Blessed be God, which hath not turned away my prayer, nor his mercy from me."

The Summer Of No Pants 2020 (post 2)

Round 4: Sewing a dress with an elastic waist. I tried in June '16, and Summer '17 and Fall '18.
(Red dress: cut the sides straighter, hence fuller, but forgot on this black dress...So Far, the Blue dress (2017) has fit THE BEST...)

This dress fabric is from Aunt Laura (who BTW, says she's no longer my Aunt- what do you make of that???) - She wanted me to sew it with 1) elbow sleeves, 2) elastic waist, and she wanted 3) the sleeves to have a contrasting white cuff and the waist to be white as well....But the more I thought about it, the more my mind said "You'll look like you are dressed like a waitress or a maid"...not that that would be a problem, it's just that I wanted a nicer dress, not a costume this time around. So I left off the contrasting fabric...although, I'm thinking about designing a "belt" that could be buttoned on...

~The fabric is a “Brother-Sister” from Hobby Lobby.
~I used my go-to pattern, the retired Simplicity #8071  =)
~POCKETS! I gave this dress 2 full-sized pockets...I LOVE them. I forgot how nice REAL packets are!
~The sleeves on this pattern are on the slim side- always have been- even when I was young and thin, the sleeves were uncomfortable, so in making this dress, I added to the width and length for a better fit.
~The zipper is a invisible zipper, set in the back.  Afterthought: I wish I'd placed it in the side, because of the fabric print...oh well.
~And I lengthened the bodice 2.5 inches, so I could have a waist.
~I added 3 casings to the inside, and ran 1/2" elastic- I was careful to not stitch the elastic into the zipper, so that if I wished I could take it up, let it out, or redo it.
~Because I made this dress with sleeves, I added an extra inch of fabric to each shoulder BACK, and pleated it to make it match the front bodice.  (but I did not pinch out any pleats- just let the elastic take care of that)

*SONP not is officially happening this year, but I like to sew, and wear cute dresses & skirts anyway, so I'll just do my own thing....

Whatever Wednesday: Midnight Snack

Have you ever just whipped out crunchy waffles because you were hungry, and you did not care what time it was? (yes, I washed the dishes)
We don't all want to go to a
24 hour waffle house in our P.J.s!
I would think that it would be a fun once-in-a-blue moon thing to do for your kids- wake them up for fresh waffles...especially if you had company over. (NO syrup, so that they'll go back to sleep after!)

Whatever Wednesday: Dinner outside

Do you ever just take your dinner outside?  Just have a "picnic" of sorts, fill your plate and head out for some fresher air?  Try it, I'll bet you'll like it. =)
