Vera Lynn

I wonder what Vera Lynn would think/say about the fact that "the lights all over the World" have never truly come on....

Vera Welch was born March 20th, 1917.  Like most performers, Vera changed her last name. She chose Lynn (at least it was her Grandmother's maiden name!).

In 2009 she became the oldest living artist to make it to No. 1 on the British album chart, at the age of 92.   (Just looking at her, she makes me think of Mrs. Lauer)

Her autobiography Some Sunny Day was published in August 2009, when Lynn was 92. She had written two previous memoirs: Vocal Refrain (1975) and We'll Meet Again (1989).

She is one of the last surviving major entertainers of the war years.

You can read a bit more about her here.
