Fall 2016 Dress 2 of 2


Wow- this dress has been done awhile now, and I'm just now posting about it!  I REALLY love this dress- it seems to fit better than the others I've made.  The first few times I wore this dress, I wore a shiny black belt, and black leggings, and black shoes- forgot to take a photo, though... =/  ...this time I went with brown belt & shoes- I love both looks.


 ~After making my dress, I went to ModCloth for dress ideas, and saw that they have a dress almost exactly like mine!  I could not believe my eyes!!!
~The fabric is a fine, light weight Red Plaid woven cotton ~ purchased from the Wal*mart dollar bin YEARS ago.  Mom bought like 2 bolts, and has had 2 dresses so far. Wasn't it nice of her to let me have some? (and we still have more!)
~Yes, I used my go-to pattern, the retired Simplicity #8071  =)  
~And I lengthened the bodice 2 1/2 inches, so I could wear a belt with it. (but I don't guess I have to)
~I added an extra inch of fabric to each shoulder front, and gathered it to make it match the back bodice.  (Then pinched it out in 2 pleats at the waist.)
~And I pinched out 2 more pleats, so...4 pleats total. =)
~The zipper is a regular (vintage metal) zipper, set in the side, following the packet instructions for a
~OH! This was the first time I added belt loops to this dress pattern!

Yes, it's a lovely Madras plaid and you did a great job as usual!! I AM so glad I bought so much of it years ago! Another bonus - it's not genetically modified cotton! =)
