Milly~Molly~Mandy books

I think that everyone should read the English children's stories about Milly-Molly-Mandy written by Joyce Lankester Brisley.   I was mostly grown up when I was introduced to MMM, but I've read all the stories I could get my hands on, and have sent books to 7 different families...little boys and girls alike love Milly-Molly-Mandy and her friends.

The first MMM book was published in 1928!

If your child MUST have colored pictures (and fewer stories), I would recommend THIS book.
If your child just loves the stories and wants as many as possible, then THIS is the book for you!

James & Adam

I just LOVE Milly-Molly-Mandy and Have thought of having a MMM party~  Look at this party I just found: HERE!   Additional link: here

Summer Recap

How was your Summer?  Do you ever set Summer Goals for yourself?  I never really thought about it (except participating in SONP* and that was more of a  necessity) until this Spring, when my friend Charity and I were talking about it.

I made 2 Summer Goals:
1)  Read more.  I always think of myself as a reader- but I realized that while that used to be true it has not been true for a long while now.
2)  Get more Sun.

How did I do?  I read about 11 books, and did get more sun than "normal", even then I'm probably the only one who can tell!

Pippi Longstocking was first published in 1945, and is now translated in 64 languages.

Fun Monday~ 1970's

Warning/Disclaimer: I would not recommend the first 2 shows for children.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Mork & Mindy
, 1978-1982
For a slice of 1970's cultural experience, watch Mork & Mindy! "....A wacky alien comes to Earth to study its residents, and the life of the human woman he boards with is never the same...."
I like Mindy's hair-do's and most of her clothes! We own the series. Mom watched it when she was young and mentions she had jeans like that, etc.
Here is a cute (& short) clip you can watch: The Egg scene! (I love the theme song, but I could not find a clip of it to share it with you...)
Nanoo Nanoo.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Good Life, or sometimes known as Good Neighbors, 1975-1978

Tom & Barbara Good and Jerry & Margo Ledbetter
"...The perils of "escaping the rat race" and dropping out of society - to start a farm in Surbiton..."
The Good's are farming in the city, and their best friends and next door neighbors the Ledbetters just don't get it. =) Tom & Barbra are so sweet! My parents watched the reruns on PBS in the mid 1980's, and Dad likes to whistle the tune that Tom does...I wonder if my Man could/would learn to do it, too? We own this series as well. Too bad the show didn't last very long.

Click here to listen to/watch the opening titles~ I never skip it when watching the show. =)
And here is a good clean clip you can watch: Would you like some bread with that cheese?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
AND
Bonanza!, 1959- 1973
"...The adventures of Ben Cartwright and his sons as they run and defend their ranch while helping the surrounding community. ..."
I don't understand the people who just LOVED Little Joe (spoiled brat)...I like Hoss & Adam MUCH better! The sad news is that the Ponderosa Ranch at Lake Tahoe closed down...the happy news is that we got to go one time (in 1999 when we were visiting mom's dad and grandmother)! Tahoe...fond childhood memories for mom. And we3. =)
Bonanza Theme Song:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

"Carolyn Haywood (January 3, 1898 - January 11, 1990) was an American author and illustrator from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Haywood published 47 children's books, most notably the series under the "Eddie" and "Betsy" titles."

I bought and read my first (and only) Betsy book YEARS ago, and then just a few years ago, I stumbled upon the Eddie books, not even knowing that they were by the same author! I liked the Betsy book and I LOVE the Eddie books, I was getting them from the library and interlibrary loan...I've not read them all, but someday I will! =) (Eddie & Gardenia takes place in Texas!)

Random Wednesday~ 1960's

My Mom's only fancy car was a silver 1967 Datsun Fairlady she bought after she graduated in 1980. It was sold to pay the hospital bill when I was born. =)

Car of the Future~ we all have one of these in the garage, don't we?! =)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Two of my favorite 60's books:
The Alley, written by Eleanor Estes in 1964.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ribsy, also written in 1964, by Beverly Cleary
If you get the audio, make sure that it was performed by Neil Patrick Harris. The same goes for Henry Huggins.
(I know that Henry Huggins was written in 1950, but we love that one too- it tells how Henry got Ribsy.)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A couple of songs we love:
This poor guy, he can't get up the nerve to even ask this girl to be his baby:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
And the Archies, singing Sugar, Sugar in the original 1969 music video:

(Mom had one of those "back of the cereal box" records, she was showing it off to a neighbor boy and he took the toy he had in his hand and made a deep gouge in the record! She was heart-broken. At 6 or 7 years old, it was pretty traumatic! She loved the Archies comics and cartoon.)

(Spaghetti Westerns were a 1960's thing! I think that someone should open a Spaghetti Western Restaurant...)
