Dressing for Fall...

...I am posting these outfits in participation with  Be Thou My Vision's "Fall Has Fallen"
Fall Fashion Blog Party (here).  I confess that to me, it's way too early (and hot to even think about Fall clothes...), and I spend my Fall days trying to wear my favorite Summer clothes again before I have to un-pack the Winter things.
(Winter things are different- I look forward to dressing for winter...I hope that it's supposed to be cold this year!)

 But I had borrowed Mrs. Bee's friend (my Dad named her "Dolly"), so I thought that I would just dress her up, and put all my outfits in this one post.  =)   I felt like Miss Rose White dressing the mannequin over and over!!! (I love that movie)

My friends know that my clothes (& shoes) don't tend to wear-out...they live for ever. =}
(That's good and bad...my dream is that friends would come over and play with all my things and arrange/put together "new" outfits for me to wear....I feel like I'm in a rut, and I wear the same combinations over & over...for years!)

Today's fashion challenge: Dress like the person who most inspires you in the world of fashion. (I'll just say a lot of my dear friends!)

*Denim flower skirt- made by me...I know, it needs help! =)

30 years ago today...

 =) My Mom and Dad have been married for 30 years today!   I confess that sometimes while I was growing up I was not sure it would last this long, but thanks to God, it did (with God all things are possible!), and every year is better than the last! And I am very glad!

The First Day of Fall~

...The leaves on the Peach trees are turning...

An Applesauce Cake  was baked...I think that I'll frost it.
(from Dad's 1973 Betty Crocker cookbook (here)...page 104
...it's for an outdoor Hymn Sing/Surprise Birthday Party, this evening)

Kukicha Twig Tea has just been brewed...

We steep 1Tablespoon in about 5 1/2 to 6 cups boiling water for 5 minutes, and then re-steep the same Twigs for 6 minutes, and mix them together and sweeten the whole pot.

...I think that it should be sweetened with a "pinch" size spoon of Stevia, and Mom says the "smidgen" is best, and Dad says "Find another sweetener!  =)

I prefer to drink it cool or cold, Mom likes it hot or cold.
How do you like it?

Happiness is new Jello molds!

When Mom and I took Dad to the airport, we stopped at a large charity thrift store in Irving - it was some kind of a local church mission.

I (with Mom's encouraging), bought this set of 15 ring shaped Jello molds, plus one "fancy cake" kind...all for $1.59

I don't know yet if they have holes (I hope that they don't!), but they make me smile...when can I use them!?!?!  =)

What does it take to make a party?

~First week:
1.  Send a whole bunch of sneaky invitations.

~Second week day 1:
2.  Shop for ingredients & make 3 kinds of Cooky dough, using real butter, of course! (and wash the dishes)
     Panic thinking that you don't have enough Cookies, so you ask a friend to make some    too....

~Second week, day 2:
3.  Scrub 14 rather dirty lawn chairs, 1 table, 2 benches. (& maybe your Mom's car)

4.  Eat a Popsicle, fall on the floor, red, exhausted, and hot...wondering how many people are coming anyway...invite some more, just in case....

5.  Bake most of the cookies:
         68 Peanut Butter Cookies
         49 Chocolate Chip Cookies
                          (and wash the dishes)

6.  Clean at least some of the house.

~Second week, day 3:
7.  Bake 69  Oatmeal Cookies (Dad's favorite!)
         (recipe here- the only changes we made were, only bake one pan at a time, and  when you turn them halfway, bang the pan so they fall!)

8.  Clean some more of the house!
9.  Sew up some "Cornhole" bags:

Dad made a "Cornhole" board...we had never played, but Joshua told us about playing it in Korea.  (get info here)

  "These are our pet Flamingos, their name's are....."

Mr. Bee's fancy throw:

"This will be easy...

...maybe not...that was bad!"

Charlie tried his hand too- Hey Charlie! You are throwing the wrong way!

 Charlie liked the ducks!

 One of Dad's famous "Hey- taste this!"  Purslane!

Sorry that we did not get pictures of everyone that came....We all had fun, and Dad had a Happy Early Birthday! =)   Thank you for coming!  =)

ModCloth & Salt-Water Sandals

My very first purchase from ModCloth came today!

ModCloth has vintage things, and new clothes that have a "vintage feel" and shoes!

 I ordered Salt-Water sandals in white. They had green, red, yellow & brown, but all they have left is blue (blue cost more- click here). They were on clearance for $12 and the shipping was only $4! =)

 Salt-Water Sandals have been in the sandal-making business for 60 years~

The best things about them?
1.  Leather uppers- they are soft and comfortable. (And the clasp is rust-resistant!)
2. The soles are hard, and click like little kid shoes.  =)
3. They are water-resistant.
4. They are classic and retro, and they should last for years! =)
5. Last but not least, the price was really good!

The sad thing?
1. No arch support. =(
2. Made in China. =(

P.S.
I got to wear them for the first time (April 2013), and they are so nice- they fit well, and the leather uppers are SO comfortable! The only down side is that because they are flat, they make you walk like a duck! =)

Fall is in the air~

You are probably thinking, "Come on Adrienne~ you live in Texas, how can you tell at the Beginning of September, that fall is in the air?"

I know that fall is in the air, because:
1.  There are many fewer crazy kids in the stores.
2.  I have started to turn off my ceiling fan at night.
3.  I'm catching a shiver after my morning shower.
(I know that I am sitting here, writing this in short sleeves...)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I also want to be creative...I'd like to make something Fall-ish and Fun...these are not what I have in mind, but they do look like fun!  =)
Pressed Leaf Butterflies (click here):
 Apple Coasters (click here):
   (Or click here for cute Citrus Coasters!)
 I'll bet that these would be a lot of fun to make (click here):
Towels for Beth & Erich
Mom bought 2 "Flour-sack" towels at Attwood's yesterday, and we washed and dried them last night.
This morning, I sewed rickrack on them....
 ...Mom designed the 2 yellow stripes (2" & 3 1/2" from the edge),
and I thought up the wavy one (1 1/2" & 3 1/2" from the edge).
 I really liked them (can you tell?), I think that I'll have to make some for us! =)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
(I think that Beth liked them, too.)

P.S. Click here to see the new towels I made!
