Matinee Saturday~ 1960's

Cary Grant & Audrey Hepburn, Charade~ 1963
Would you like to scare yourself? Assuming you aren't hard to scare, you should watch Charade! =)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Rex Harrison & Audrey Hepburn, My Fair Lady~ 1964
Click here to listen to my favorite song! =) In the last few years we have celebrated Eliza Doolittle day, the 20th of May. See photos from 2010, here...and 2011, here.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dick Van Dyke & Julie Andrews, Mary Poppins~ 1964
Don't we all love Mary & Burt?! Growing up we rarely watched movies, but we did have about 7 that we watched over and over and over again. (They were Puss & Boots-1988, Mary Poppins-1964, Errol Flynn's Robin Hood-1938, Old Yeller-1957, Lassie Come Home-1943, Rascal-1969, Swiss Family Robinson-1960)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dean Jones & Yvette Mimieux, Monkeys Go Home!~ 1967
I really like this one~ I laugh every time I watch it! =)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I watched this movie Good Morning Vietnam for the first time ever this week (with a ClearPlay.com filter, for language). This movie came out in 1987, and is set in 1965 Saigon, South Vietnam...

I found this a rather depressing movie, but it was interesting. In it, Robin Williams plays a DJ, for the US Military radio station. Williams did a wonderful job~ that man is so talented...he can really make you feel all the pain/joy/sorrow/wonder in any story (movie) he plays in. I just wish his mouth was cleaner...

One last thought~
I LOVE the music in the Magnificent Seven (1960):

Fashionable Friday~ 1960's

(embedded videos today!)
Like last week, I just did a photo search and "ran around" snatching photos of clothes & stuff I liked. If you click on the words above each photo they will take you to the source. (note: I did not really read the sites & posts...)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I would have to wonder if of all the decades I've posted about (or maybe even in the whole last century), the 1960's had the most dramatic changes in the fashion industry.
Dressing Vintage(click for more views) brings you this lovely little number:
"You will love the neutral pale beige tone of this pretty vintage Carlye 60's dress! The knife pleated skirt falls from the drop waist and the bodice was created from lace, ribbon applique and pearls & rhinestones! Ethereal beauty!"
Want to dry your hair in just 22 minutes? Try one of these:
This apparently is one of those modern new "life-like" mannequins....kind of looks like Laura Petrie, doesn't she?
This one just makes me want to laugh! PETA now recommends walking your Turkeys, no less than 5 hours per day. Using a leash is recommended, if you wish to keep your pet safe. (Especially when hunting season is open...) And if you wear a kind of crazy dress at the same time, your photo could end up on the front page of the newspaper.
Doortje:
(I'll bet you can guess which pictures I saved this one for!)
Use a clothes dryer & make it a GAS dryer:
Helen Uffner Vintage Clothing:
(she's got some fun stuff...I kind of like this dress, but it would be better in other colors...)
This "Vintage Horse Head Clothing Brush" is available to purchase on Etsy- (click here):
Fergie wanted to be in this photo, with my Pretty Yellow Hat that Sarah H. got me for my birthday a few back....I guess that it's a '60s hat. (The wide yellow ribbon is the best: it's velvet!)
Baking Thursday~ 1960's
Remember my 1961, Make-it Book from Tuesday? Well, included in those "over 1000 things to do" are some recipes (for goodies)! I made this for my cousins one year....they were so good!
(although, I must say, there was no such thing as "drop by teaspoons..." mine somehow ended up being really thick, like a dough that I had to knead. I pinched off bits and then rolled & slightly flattened them...They kind of dried.) I put them in Ziploc bags for storage.
"Sweets For My Sweet" was the Drifters song in 1961, and in 1963 the Searchers sang it.
Embedded for you today is the Searchers version:
A few more of my recipes:
Gluten-free Cinnamon Muffins
Adrienne's Coffee Ice Cream
Sugar (or Sugar-Free) Spiced Almonds
....and you know, you can always check out my Recipes/Food tab over on the right...
Want some coffee? Instant coffee ad:
Sugar (or Sugar-free) Spiced Almonds
(You could use what ever kind of nuts I think...)
First, put 3& 1/2 to 4 cups raw Almonds in a single layer on a baking sheet in a cold oven. Turn to 300, and then take them out in about 10 minuets. (they will be toasted)
Now turn the heat up to 325.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

In a small bowl mix together:

1 tea. Cinnamon

1/2 tea. Cloves

1/2 tea. Nutmeg

1/2 tea. salt

1/4 tea. Black Pepper

1/4 cup Xylitol or Sugar (if you use Xylitol they stay sticky- never get hard)

Beat an egg white to a fine, thick/stiff foam in a reasonable sized bowl.

Stir in the dry ingredients, then add the almonds- stir to coat.

Spray or grease the pan well and then dump & spread the coated nuts evenly on the pan.

Put them in the oven, stir approx. every 7min. about 14 to 20 min. total.

Cool as long as you can stand! =)

(I'm sorry that there is no picture- they just don't last very long!)

Gluten-Free Cinnamon Muffins

Gluten-Free Cinnamon Muffins - baked or fried!
This makes 12 muffins or a lot of fried mini muffins.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1 egg -beaten
½ cup oil
¾ cup milk
¾ cup Brown rice flour
¾ cup Sorghum flour
½ cup Sweet rice flour
¼ cup Sugar
1 teaspoon Xanthan gum
1 teaspoon Salt
3 teaspoons Baking powder
1 ½ to 2 teaspoons Cinnamon
½ cup ground Pecans -optional (makes them extra nice!)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Baked muffins: bake at 400 for 15 or so minutes. (you know how to bake muffins, but I think that they may cook faster than wheat muffins)
Fried muffins: I used the 1 ½ inch “cookie dropper”. Heat oil to 375 cook around 1.5 - 2 minutes, stir them so they cook evenly
After taking them out, I put them on paper towel covered paper grocery bag, to drain some- then I put them in doubled paper sandwich bags and shook them in Cinnamon Sugar.
Variation: Another time I baked some as muffins, I used almost 1 cup of eggnog (the rest oil) and not quite all of the Cinnamon, and ground Pecans- they were really good! =)

Adrienne

P.S. I think that next time I make the fried kind, I’ll put in a little nutmeg….

Adrienne's Coffee Ice Cream

(Why is this mine? Because I was the first person in the family to make it, and tweak it.)
Photo of the recipe:

The BEST way to make this ice cream is to use fresh, raw cream for all three cups of dairy.

NEVER use 3 cups of store-bought cream- (it make's it kind of nasty). Have fun! =)

I never take it's temp or strain it. I also always use 2 and 1/2 Tablespoons regular instant coffee, and popcorn salt.

...and I may try less sugar next time too....

Random Wednesday~ 1960's

My Mom's only fancy car was a silver 1967 Datsun Fairlady she bought after she graduated in 1980. It was sold to pay the hospital bill when I was born. =)

Car of the Future~ we all have one of these in the garage, don't we?! =)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Two of my favorite 60's books:
The Alley, written by Eleanor Estes in 1964.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ribsy, also written in 1964, by Beverly Cleary
If you get the audio, make sure that it was performed by Neil Patrick Harris. The same goes for Henry Huggins.
(I know that Henry Huggins was written in 1950, but we love that one too- it tells how Henry got Ribsy.)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A couple of songs we love:
This poor guy, he can't get up the nerve to even ask this girl to be his baby:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
And the Archies, singing Sugar, Sugar in the original 1969 music video:

(Mom had one of those "back of the cereal box" records, she was showing it off to a neighbor boy and he took the toy he had in his hand and made a deep gouge in the record! She was heart-broken. At 6 or 7 years old, it was pretty traumatic! She loved the Archies comics and cartoon.)

(Spaghetti Westerns were a 1960's thing! I think that someone should open a Spaghetti Western Restaurant...)
